Chapter Seventeen

“It’s Monday,” Damian said, his voice muffled by the pillow.

Alex smiled, turned towards his lover, and wrapped an arm around Damian’s waist under the sheet they’d pulled over themselves last night. “Stunning observation, Sherlock.”

“Smart arse.” Damian pinched Alex’s rear. “I meant that it’s Monday and I don’t have to be up at the arse crack of dawn to go to work. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have somewhere to be on a Monday morning.”

“Hmm, yeah, I know what you mean, I’ve been thinking the same thing for a couple of weeks now. I think it’s time we both started looking for jobs.” In spite of his words, Alex made no attempt to move beyond smoothing a hand up and down Damian’s back. There was really nowhere else he wanted to be.

“Shit, I’ve never had to look for work before,” Damian sounded more amused than disturbed. “I walked out of uni and into an executive position at Stanhope Developments. Do people still use CVs?”

Alex tucked his head into the place where Damian’s neck and shoulder met and snickered. “Poor little rich boy.”

“Fuck you,” Damian muttered. He slipped a leg between Alex’s and rubbed his thigh against Alex’s stirring cock.

Alex sighed and pushed closer. “Mm, yes, that would be a lovely way to start the day.”

“Unfortunately, I have to piss.” Damian moved suddenly, rolled Alex on to his back and leaned over him. With a wide, teasing smile, he dropped a brief, almost chaste kiss on Alex’s lips and got out of bed.

“You’re such a fucking romantic, Stanhope.” Alex laughed and turned on to his side to watch Damian walk across the room to the bathroom. The pull and release of muscle under smooth skin was mesmerising, and Alex was certain Damian was putting an extra little swing into his hips, just for him. “I’ll make coffee and we can talk about what you’re going to do with your useless arse.”

“Nothing useless about this arse, Jennings.” Damian glanced over his shoulder and winked. “You’ll see.”

Sensation shivered through Alex. Can’t wait.

Dressed in yesterday’s boxers, Alex left the bedroom, which was sectioned off from the main area by a frosted glass screen, and headed for the kitchen area at the far end of the vast room. He was standing and staring at a huge stainless steel coffee machine, with more knobs and buttons than a space shuttle, when he heard Damian’s soft footsteps approaching. “Are you serious with this thing?”

Damian grinned and nudged Alex out of the way, then set about making the coffee with impressive ease and dexterity. When he turned back to Alex and handed him a cup of steaming, aromatic espresso, he looked so pleased with himself that Alex’s heart squeezed in his chest.

“God, that’s good,” Alex said after taking a sip. “Well, I’d say that’s one problem solved.” Damian frowned, clearly puzzled, and Alex leaned in to kiss the tip of his nose. “With skills like that you could easily get a job in Starbucks. Hell, you’d be head barista in a week.
